Platform Bed

I have wanted a platform bed with cute storage baskets since about highschool. When I moved out of my apartment and into a house, with a friend, I thought this would be the perfect DIY for my new bedroom.

// I just realized as I write this, I have a lot of bedroom builds - I guess that is what you get when you live in shared space. A bedroom is often an oasis you can make completely your own. :) //

It was a simple build - nothing super fancy - quick and to the point. I mocked up what I wanted, using SketchUp, before heading to the hardware store for the following materials:

  • PLYWOOD

  • WOOD GLUE

  • NAIL GUN (borrowed from Jeff)

  • HAND SANDER (borrowed from my Dad)

  • ROUTER (borrowed from my Dad)

  • NEW ROUTER BIT

  • CIRCULAR SAW (went ahead an bought my own :) )

Jeff, my now fiancé and almost husband, jumped into to help me with this one and keep me company. He is very handy! Jeff and I honestly do many house projects together as we both enjoy it… although we often fight over who gets to hold the hammer or screw something in. Just joking - but I do think he was very surprised that I loved and could do many of these builds myself if I wanted too! :) We did the entire project on my garage floor and drive way…

I used the router (one of my favorite tools btw) to route out grooves for the plywood dividers to sit in. This helped minimize the number of through joints and keep the platform shelves sturdy.
